Don McLean Accused Of Abuse In Divorce Papers

American Pie singer Don McLean's wife has filed for divorce, citing "adultery" and "cruel and abusive treatment".

The couple have been married for 30 years but Patrisha McLean's lawyer says legal papers filed in Maine cite "irreconcilable differences".

McLean was arrested in January on charges including domestic violence assault. He has pleaded not guilty.
He has been prohibited from having contact with his wife.
A statement from Patrisha McLean's attorney, Gene Libby, said she has gained "strength and insight away from his influence and control".
McLean's divorce lawyer, Michael Asen, said his client denies the characterisations made by his wife's lawyer.
He also said McLean "cares very deeply about his wife and family" and that "this wasn't what he wanted".
